In the early 2000’s, Watson Insurance Agency's commercial division team was approached with the opportunity to insure a scrap metal dealer.
Watson Insurance quickly discovered that this was a market that several insurance carriers were skeptical to look at, and thus became very interested in the market as a whole.
The agency also determined that the insurance needs of scrap metal dealers were very different from those of a junkyard, and needed to be tailored to their operations.
After gaining more insight into the insurance needs of scrap metal dealers, and sparking the interest of several insurance carriers, Watson Insurance was able to provide appropriate coverage for a number of local scrap metal dealers.
From there, Watson Insurance set out to develop a program for scrap metal dealers across the Southeast.
By 2007, the program had grown substantially into a book of over 30 accounts across the Southeast.
In 2008, Watson Insurance made the move to take the program nationally, and began insuring multi-location shredding facilities along with multi-location processors and feeder yards.
